Iowa Pagan Alliance presents...

Iowa Pagan Alliance Faery Festival

When: Jan. 1st. 2010 - Jun. 19th. 2010

Where: Granger, Iowa

Big Announcement From Iowa Pagan Pride
Event Details: Once upon a time in a very near land, there was a host of faeries, pixies, hobgoblens, eleven folk and all manner of fantastic creatures with no place to play and then it all changed......Iowa Pagan Alliance is in the planning stages of organizing Iowa's very first Faery Festival. We chose the use of the spelling Faery used by Edmund Spenser in the Faery Queen metaphorically describing Queen Elizabeth the First. This spelling is often used to refer to the faery realm. This event will be June 18th and 19th at Jester Park in Granger, Iowa. We plan on having several workshops by a variety of magickal people, several vendors from Iowa and other states. We will have jugglers and jesters, belly dancing, and the magick of tarot, crystal ball readers, and other astounding seers. We will have a childrens area with games and workshops and lots of bubbles! We will have a faery court where you get to meet the King And Queen Fairy of our event, a wishing well, a Maypole Dance, minstrels, musicians, artists, and performers to keep every kind of Fairie, Pixie, Elf, entertained. We wil be having a Summer Solstice ritual by The Coven Of The Blessed Pentacle and a actual dream come true fairy wedding. We are so very excited about being able to bring this event to Iowa!!!! We will also have other adventures planned in the coming months leading up to the festival and will fill you in as we go. Admission to get into our event since Iowa Pagan Alliance is a nonprofit organization, will be products which I will announce later that will go to The Crisis Intervention & Advocacy Center which assists women and children and homeless in domestic abuse and sexual assault cases.

^_^ Can' wait for June 18!! Got a huge group with 4 faeries, 1 hobgoblin, and possibly 4 elves. Totally have to come out for this! Also the Des Moines Renaissance Faire is totally awesome. This year its September 4-6, 11-12 and 18-19. Last year my group was gypsies and pages. This year, is awhile off so we aren't sure yet. Happiness is a Warm Gun....(Part 2)

So my last post under this title was about James Bond, This one is about another one of my odd obsessions: zombies :D To be more specific, this post is about an MMPOC (massive multi-player online community) game called Urban Dead . Its a game centered around survivors and zombies( you can play as either) in the city of Malton. Malton is broken down into 100 suburbs, which all contain hospitals, churches, police/fire stations, junkyards, wastelands, parks, cemeteries, office buildings, etc. The whole point of the game is to survive and kill.

Multiple subgroups and communties have arisen in the larger community of Malton. With groups devoted to surviors, PKers(player killers) and zeds(Zombie), just about anyone can find a group they can agree with. Some of my favorite groups of surviors are: Creedy Defense Force (This is the community I belong to), Anti-Zombie Squad(a beginner's group), and Axes High (melee intensive group). You can also find many of the other groups at the wiki group page.

While I'd love to explain this subject deeper, it's more of something you have to experience. I recommend creating a character(Military class as either a private or scout is best, in my experience), use the wiki to find your way to St. Paul's Church in Roachtown, come on in and try and talk with Good Day Sunshine, HeyJude94 or She said She said. They'll take good care of you. Trust me ;)

Happiness is a Warm Gun....(Part 1)

The title is slightly disturbing but in this case true, because I'm talking about some pretty awesome things here: James Bond and zombies. Yes, this is quite random but still is kinda of a big deal for me.

Let us start with Mr. Bond. A new acquaintance of mine,Chad, has me remembering just how awesome THE international man of mystery was. I find myself re-watching my old favorites like: Live and Let Die and Diamonds are Forever(Sean Connery= best Bond ever). I fact in a bout of boredom last night i wrote out a secret mission for my new friend to attempt...we'll see how he does ;)

Its undeniable that James is what every man wants to be.He's charming, handsome, a great shot, a secret agent and he always gets the girl. I grew up wanting to be like him but also different.

As a 5 year old girl, i didn't want to watch the action flicks that my brothers watched(I was still into Disney movies) but I found myself oddly drawn to the Bond series ever since I saw Honey Rider in Dr.No. This was the first Bond flick I ever saw and I was surprised that the girls were given such independent personalities. Honey even pulls a knife on Bond!!!! In all actuality, all Bond girls are independent because they do not trust men, due to past traumatic incidents, but still a female character with the guts to threaten the main male charater was something I'd never seen at that point and was like,"That's awesome."

So from then on, I begged my brothers to rent Bond movies, wanting to see if more of these strong girls were in them, and to my delight, there were more. There were good girls, bad girls, girls who start out bad but ulitimately change to help the greater good. Every one of them damaged but functioning and everyone ofthem strong and skilled. I wanted to be one of them(hopefully without the damaged part though).

Anyway today, I even went to every English teachers nightmare, Wikipedia, and read up on the Bond Girls. It actually made some valid points on comparisons and differences from the Bond books to the movies.Which the books are great, but the movies are easier to get through but less detailed.

(NOTE: As of yesterday I finished rewatching all the Bond movies, with the exception of Quantum of Solace, which i refuse to recognize as a bond flick.)

For Emilay....

I'm sure if you knew us, you'd understand.
